Christmas Decorating Southern Helle Style

So far Leather Peacock has been holding down all decor-related posts on this blog. My excuse: I have new home owner's burn out. When I first bought the house two years ago, I lived at Lowe's and Home Depot. I juggled at least five projects simultaneously. Upon collapsing in to bed exhausted each night, I would turn on HGTV only to see an awesome backsplash idea and add that to my to-do list. It was too much. But I am slowly coming back around to liking the idea of home improvement and decoration projects again. Christmas really brings it out in me.
I see beautifully coordinated trees in stores and truly love them but I believe your tree tells the story of you and your family so our ornaments are all over the map.

Leather Peacock isn't the only one with Star Wars ornaments!

Elvis lives!!! (on my tree, at least)

I have no idea what sushi has to do with Christmas. Except my husband and I love it. So that's good enough.

Another Bryson City find. There is something so beautiful about this ornament.

Our cheesy "We got married in Jamaica" ornament

This one never ceases to make me laugh. Something about Jesus whispering to little kids about his arch rival Santa Claus.

Needless to say, my stepdaughter HATES this ornament. Which makes us love it even more...

I was going for a shooting star theme for our tree topper. I have had at least five people tell me it looks like a Vegas showgirl's headdress. That works for me too!

The mantle. I love blue Christmas decor.

Decorating Style Part Duex; I Have A New Favorite Online Store!

My current abode is humble, but that never stops me from constantly updating my style or planning for when I have a larger place. As part of my continuing bedroom forest-ish redecorating I found a new favorite store: The Evolution Store. It has animal skulls, taxidermy, framed insects and much much more. I am both fascinated, excited and a little bit worried about how much I like it. For my first purchase, I did limit myself to only two purchases:

agate coasters. Love, love love them!

deer antlers

I am torn as whether to leave the antlers loose in my bedroom as if they might have been left there, as part of my theme or be crafty and attach them to some wood as a jewelry/scarf holder. Decisions, decisions.

One thing I do know, I see many more purchases from the Evolution Store in my future!

Decorating Tips Leather Peacock Style

The Fall Season always makes me feel more alive. It makes me want to redecorate, restyle and a find a good beer by a nice fire on a cold night. I've been waffling on how I want to decorate my bedroom but finally figured out where all my random purchases have been leading me. I want to have a modern but being overtaken by nature look. A not-quite-Mrs Havisham outside meets inside garden room. So far I have started incorporating small woodland creatures to the decor:

And in lieu of a jewelry armoire have used a bird cage to hold my favorite jewelry.
I put my earrings to hang on the edges:
Its useful, makes it quick to grab or change out jewelry and keeps with my room's new theme! Must go to some local thrift stores and flea markets to see what I can find to continue on! Birdcage and small table from Garden Ridge.
